Ken's Story

I haven't been cold since 1975! As my good ol' buddy Bob Polcyn would say "This is just for funzies, right?" If I owe anyone anything, we are beyond any legal obligation limit. My St. Rita high school days were trying and confusing at times, but overall good. I was too much of a green-horn and wasteful with my time and energy. But, I have to say that I learned responsibility, respect for others and many things that I should avoid. Negative reinforcement probably kept me in-line more than most other Rita-men. Great school and faculty. I owe the school for their tolerance and if you can believe it, compassion. I should have done more and listened more to their teachings and direction. My mistake! I do miss Quicker, Foler, Cabbagehead, Metz, the Mo-gang, Cookieman and many, many, more of the Wood St & Marquette Park gangs. May God bless everyone and I'm sorry if I did you wrong. Truly, I am. I was probably drinking and didn't know any better and I was too young. Most likely someone else made me do it. I gotta admit that "Little Flower girls were the prettiest!" I had a blast during those years, near and around Wood Street. Many fine families, parents and kids. The energy around Wood Street on weekends and some week nights was similar to a festival. Unbelievable! I miss some people and relationships but not the weather in Chi-town. I get back there on occasion, it ain't Steamboat Springs, but Chicago is dynamite during the Christmas and New Year's holidays. I remember those New Year's e...Expand for more
ve parties and parties in general, what a mega-blast! But, then I moved on. Spread my wings to the South and made it happen. God, I love the sunshine and weather. Life's been good to me so far !!! My wife Luanne, and daughters Katelyn and Lauren are my sunshines. I am extremely blessed to be where I am in life and for all the family, friends, lifestyle and toys. I try to keep one foot in the water everyday and my head on my shoulders(avoiding them 'gators, not the stinking UF kind, although I do avoid them too when FSU plays against them in ANY sport). Sometimes it seems as though Chicago and my younger days were just a dream, and a good one at that! I often run through and around the everglades coastal waters with my backwater skiff. Going like a "bat outta hell" I will stop and fish for awhile and in the quiet I will listen to the wildlife sounds and view the backwater scenes. I find myself reflecting on my Chicago-days. Comparing the present sights and sounds to the factory noise and heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic that I heard from my Southside Chicago bedroom during my youth. Those sights and sounds will forever be a part of my memory. A dream within a dream. I think that it's good to look back, but I don't want to go back. Too freakin' cold. There's nothing better than being a Florida State Seminole! ===========;;;;> " Go FSU Seminoles ! " Leave me a message and I'll get back at ya. You can call me late, but don't call me late for dinner! 4-17-2009---- to be continued
